A solar park with installed capacity of 1 MWp (one megawatt peak) was put in operation by the Bulgarian company InterSol JSC. The photovoltaic (PV) plant, located nearby village of Paunovo, Ihtiman Municipality (South-Western Bulgaria) is the largest of its scale not only in Bulgaria, but also in
South-Eastern Europe. SunSERVICE Ltd. is the project developer and construction works performer, while the project advisor is the German leader in photovoltaics – IBC Solar AG.
The PV plant spreads over 45 decares of land and consists of 13 365 modules and 159 inverters. The modules are Kaneka K75, thin-film amorphous silicon, manufactured by the Japanese Kaneka Corp. The inverters are SMC 6000A, manufactured by the German SMA Solar Technology AG.
“The thin-film modules ensure maximum productivity in the summer peak season, as well as in periods with diffusion light like the winter time”, explains Mr.Rumen Christov, general manager of SunSERVICE. “The park was constructed for less than a year, and according to the best practices
under the strict supervision of our German partners”, adds Christov. The electricity output from the PV plant near Paunovo is expected to be no less than 1 250 MWh/MWp per year. It will bring about reductions of at least 900 tonnes of CO2 per year, which would have resulted from electricity production utilizing conventional technology.
