For future young professionals it is important to acquaint themselves with all the structures of a financial institution in order to choose which field of finance would be most suitable for them. This internship program was my first contact with the financial industry. Karoll Group is a leading financial institution in Bulgaria. It makes precise selection of candidates and invests heavily in education.

I chose to take part in the program because it provides intensive trainings and business insight into all companies within Karoll. The main reason for choosing this internship is that Karoll is a leader among the financial institutions in Bulgaria.

The program is very useful because it stimulates thinking outside of the box, creativity and problem solving skills in a real working environment. Each selected intern had to pass four selection phases: documentation phase, test phase, interview and the last one – case study that had to be presented and defended in front of the BoD. For this purpose a team of external and internal professionals and an in-house mentor helped the trainees.

This program gave me the opportunity to show my leadership potential to senior managers. After finishing the internship, I was given the chance to start working directly on a marketing project that was of key improtance for the future development of Karoll.

The internship program at Karoll Financial Group was a unique experience for me. I had the opportunity to get familiar with all departments within the company and to learn from experienced professionals. I gained in-depth knowledge in the field of investment and financial markets. I learned the basics of fundamental and technical analysis through lectures, led by financial professionals. I chose the internship program at Karoll because it is based on tradition. This is not a random event without a clear goal but a well-organized educational initiative that happens every year. I was impressed from the high requirements for applicants - education in the field of finance and business, foreign languages, high grades, reference letters and so on. The internship program at Karoll Financial Group improved my knowledge about financial markets.

It helped me to understand that in order to be good at what you do, it is necessary not only to rely on your academic training but also to be motivated and to have desire for continuous improvement. The people I met at Karoll inspired me to grow and learn not only during the internship, but to continue to do so thereafter.

And even though I'm working in a different of the financial markets area right now I apply the lessons I have learned at this internship.

My desire to get involved in Learning in Practice emerged during an open lecture led by portfolio managers of Karoll Capital Management at Sofia University. Yet I realized that Karoll Financial Group invests not only in securities but in knowledge too. I had the honour to be among the first participants in this educational initiative. I was impressed by the organization and the special attention devoted to us. The experience in dealing with scientific research project at Karoll was valuable training for writing my master's thesis. Conversations with professionals from various departments confirmed my desire to specialize in the field of investment management. My decision to continue my academic background with MSc of Finance and Investment in the Netherlands was inspired by this internship.
